Getting on the property ladder can be challenging, but with a range of government assistance measures available, owning your first home might be easier than you think. In 2025, several federal and state programs are designed to help first home buyers get into the market with reduced costs. Here’s a breakdown of the key grants and incentives available across Australia.

Federal Government Assistance

  1. First Home Guarantee (FHG) & Regional First Home Buyer Guarantee

    • Allows eligible first home buyers to purchase a home with as little as a 5% deposit.

    • No need to pay Lender’s Mortgage Insurance (LMI), potentially saving thousands.

  2. Help to Buy (Coming in 2025)

    • A shared-equity scheme where the government can co-own up to 40% of a home, reducing the buyer’s mortgage burden.

    • Expected to launch later in 2025, with more details to come.
